Working with our Striped Zippers

Striped coil zippers are more than a trend. They have become a staple in our collection, with carefully developed color combinations that are designed to match perfectly.

Because these zippers are constructed slightly differently from standard zippers, we would like to share a few practical tips to help you get the best results.

Working with coil zippers

Our striped zippers are coil zippers (nylon coil). This means the teeth are made from a flexible nylon coil that is stitched onto the zipper tape.

The big advantage? They are flexible, strong, and ideal for bags. But they do require a slightly different approach when sewing.

Tips for working with striped zippers:

Cut the zipper to your desired length and carefully melt the ends and edge coil with a lighter to prevent fraying.

Never cut through the edge coil. It provides strength to the zipper tape. If you want to reduce bulk at seams or corners, trim only the surrounding fabric, not the zipper itself.

Do the stripes look a bit “wavy”? Lightly press or steam the zipper tape (not the coil) to stabilize it before sewing.

Use a fine needle when sewing. Avoid thick (leather) needles; Microtex needles are ideal for this type of work.

Our striped zippers are available in a range of carefully curated color combinations, designed to match fabrics and webbing from our collection.
