Charlie Holster Bag is the hands-free option you’ve been waiting for. Designed as a modern alternative to the classic fanny pack, this holster-style bag can be worn crossbody or secured against the body with an optional thigh strap for extra stability.

The pattern is drafted for quilting cotton, so you don’t need any specialised equipment. Personalise it with embroidery on the pocket flap, combine cork with a statement print, or keep it sleek and minimal. Once finished, Charlie will quickly become your go-to bag — perfect for shopping, park days, concerts or craft fairs.

What You Need

When using quilting cotton, you will need a total of ¾ yard or 3 coordinating fat quarters.

• Exterior fabric: Quilting cotton recommended. Cork or pleather can be used if your machine can handle it.
• Pocket fabric: Quilting cotton recommended.
• Medium woven interfacing such as Pellon SF101, Form Fuse 1400, Legacy 931TD or Vilene G700.
• Fusible Thermolam, Fusible Fleece or Vilene 630 for exterior pieces (12” WOF).
• (Optional) Pre-made ½” webbing for the thigh strap. If unavailable, use 1” webbing or create straps from fabric.
• Pre-made 1” webbing for adjustable waist strap (optional — you can also sew your own).
• 2 scraps (1½” x 2”) of single-sided fusible Stiffy, CraftFuse or Decovil.

• If ½” webbing is available, the thigh strap can also be made from webbing.

Tools and Notions

• Sewing machine, seam ripper, thread and fabric.
• Scissors, rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat (accurate cutting is essential).
• Clips or pins, ruler, Frixion pen, Fabri-Tac (fabric glue).
• 1 x 8” zipper (coordinate with exterior fabric).
• 2 x large grommets (¾” diameter).
• 2 x 1” spring rings or swivel hooks (ensure compatibility with grommets).
• 1 x magnetic snap (cargo pocket closure).
• (Optional) 2 x ½” D-rings (for thigh straps).
• (Optional) 1 heavy-duty snap or 2 x ½” swivel hooks.
• (Optional) 1 x ½” strap slider (adjust width if strap is wider).
• 1 x 1” strap slider (waist strap).
• (Optional) 4 double-cap rivets.
